The RIT Media Player is a Flash based component to aid in adding captions to presentations that use Flash video and other Flash-based content with audio (e.g. Captivate).
The component is designed to help the RIT production staff create captioned material with minimal back end Flash development. The RIT Media Player is designed to be used on CD, Streaming servers, and with local files either on an independent hard-drive or on a web server.
To use the component, you will need to have Flash 8, and some basic knowledge of XML. The component uses an XML file to load the media. If you are using captions, it uses another XML file to synchronize the display of the captions.

Using the Component
** If you are using multiple components in a single project, you might need to modify the source code.
Setting Up the XML
There are two XML file the player needs to play your FLV, or Captivate SWF file with captions. The first XML file you will need is the Media Info file (e.g. MediaInfo.xml). This contains all of the information about your clip.
The second file you will need is a caption file. We use a script to convert QT text files to our XML standard. The process that you use will differ according to the tools you use to transcribe and sync your captions.
